St Helena’s Christmas Tree-cycle is back!

If you're planning to purchase a real tree this Christmas, let us take the hard work out of the post-festive clear up!

Our amazing volunteers will be out in force, collecting and recycling used real Christmas trees on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th January 2024.

They will be collecting from the postcode areas of CO1, CO2, CO3, CO4, CO5, CO6, CO7, CO8, CO9, CO11, CO13, CO14, CO15 and CO16.

We will not be collecting from CO10 or CO12.

We just ask for a suggested donation that enables us to support local individuals facing incurable illnesses and bereavement all year round. You’re amazing!

Sign up for Tree-cycle, and you'll automatically be entered into a draw to win a relaxing overnight B&B stay for two at Stoke by Nayland Resort!

Tree-cycle only works because of our brilliant volunteers. Can you help? Scroll down to find out more.

Are you available to volunteer?

Last time, thanks to our incredible volunteers we Tree-cycled around 2,000 real Christmas trees! We need you to help us smash that on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th January 2024!

Be a volunteer:

  • Got a van? We need drivers to pick up trees!
  • Go out with drivers to load trees into vans!
  • Help recycle the trees at centres in Colchester or Tendring!

To get involved, contact us:

Email: fundraising@sthelena.org.uk

Phone: 01206 931 468

The Christmas Tree-cycle is kindly sponsored by Tree & Lawn Company and supported by Birch Airfield, Colchester City Council, Essex County Council, Essex Reclamation and Tendring District Council.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be there when my tree is collected?
No, if your tree is out and visible on the 6th January, our volunteers will collect it without bothering you.
How can I register to volunteer to help collect the trees? Or help with a Van?
If you have time to spare and would like to help us to collect trees by volunteering on the day of Saturday 6th or Sunday 7th January please contact fundraising@sthelena.org.uk or call our fundraising office on 01206 931 468.
Are there any restrictions?
No restrictions (as long as you are wanting to register a tree within the postcode area). When registering there is a question, “is your tree over 6ft?” Please note any tree over 6ft will need to be cut in half or it will not be able to be collected.

If your tree is significantly large, please contact the fundraising team on 01206 931 468.
Can I register my tree and donate on the day?
No, all donations and registrations need to be submitted before the day. We will close registration on Monday 2nd January at Midnight or when we have reached capacity.
Can more than one tree be registered to one address?
As many trees as you would like can be registered to one address, but they all need to be clearly visible on collection day and please be mindful when donating this will take more time for our volunteers.
Do I need to take my tree out of the pot?
Yes, please remove the tree from any pots and ensure all decorations have been removed.
How do I register?

You can register on our website at www.sthelena.org.uk/tree-cycle24
When you register and donate, don't forget to add Gift Aid.

Through Gift Aid, we can claim an additional 25% on top of every donation you make, at no extra cost to you. That’s an extra 25p added to every £1 you donate, making a huge difference to us. Visit our Gift Aid page for more information.

How much does it cost to register a tree?
We accept donations for our Tree-cycle collection service, your donation will make a real difference to St Helena Hospice so please give generously.

£11 could pay for a Christmas feast for one so a patient staying at the Hospice can enjoy a special meal.

£23 could provide pain management and symptom relief for a patient, along with emotional support and advise for their family with a visit from a Hospice clinical nurse specialist, so they can remain comfortable and at home as they wish this festive season.

£60 could pay for fuel for our nurses to carry out house visits so they can provide vital care to patients in their homes this Christmas.
If you would like to register but your house has no number
If you would like to register your tree and have no house number, please leave us a clear explanation of where your house is along the road (e.g. opposite the reservoir, next to the post box, the one with bright pink gate) and where you will leave your tree, when completing the form.
What happens if I forget to put my tree out for collection?
You will receive an email reminder before collection. If the tree is not clearly visible at the front of the house and it has not been collected, we will leave a calling card that we have visited, and we will not be back to collect it.
What if my tree is collected before the 6th January?
If your tree gets collected or disposed of before the 6th January, please let us know so we do not send someone to come and collect it at the weekend.
What is the Christmas Tree-Cycle?
For a donation people can register, their real Christmas tree’s to be collected on the 6th or 7th January 2024. We have a team of volunteers that go round and collect the trees on this date.
