Find out moreThe charity event, which was sponsored by Jones and Whymark, saw novice and seasoned runners taking on 10k, 5k or 2k around the cycle track at Colchester Sports Park, many dressed as their real life or fictional hero.
Each fun run was cheered on by an enthusiastic crown of family and friends there to support participants, with added encouragement from Star Wars characters from costuming organisation The UK Garrison.
Thanking everyone who took part or sponsored someone to take part in Hero Run, Kayleigh Jowers, Senior Events and Challenges Fundraiser at St Helena Hospice, said:
“We loved seeing all the smiles from the runners and spectators at Hero Run despite the chilly weather.
“While our events are good fun to be a part of, they are vital to help us be here for people who need hospice services across north east Essex as all the money raised goes towards helping people face incurable illness and bereavement.
“All our runners and the people who sponsored them are heroes to St Helena Hospice!
“As well as our huge thanks to everyone taking part, we would also like to thank our fantastic event volunteers and contributors, and Jones & Whymark Engineering Ltd for sponsoring the event again this year.”

If you’re not a seasoned runner there is certainly no need to worry! Anybody of any age or fitness level is welcome and encouraged to take part in our Superhero Run. It’s a great family activity and also a motivational way to set a new fitness goal or challenge for yourself! When you make a donation to St Helena Hospice, we are charged transactional fees by other companies, including fees for processing payments made to us, looking up addresses and validating bank account details.
We are very grateful to our donors who offer to offset some of these fees with a minor addition to their total amount. This is however completely optional and we are very grateful for your support whether or not you choose to contribute to processing fees.
