Heroes run for hospice

The clock change did not deter 145 runners from an early start as they took on Hero Run on Sunday 29th March raising £9,500 and still counting, of vital funds for St Helena Hospice.

The charity event, which was sponsored by Jones and Whymark, saw novice and seasoned runners taking on 10k, 5k or 2k around the cycle track at Colchester Sports Park, many dressed as their real life or fictional hero.

Each fun run was cheered on by an enthusiastic crown of family and friends there to support participants, with added encouragement from Star Wars characters from costuming organisation The UK Garrison.

Thanking everyone who took part or sponsored someone to take part in Hero Run, Kayleigh Jowers, Senior Events and Challenges Fundraiser at St Helena Hospice, said:

“We loved seeing all the smiles from the runners and spectators at Hero Run despite the chilly weather.

“While our events are good fun to be a part of, they are vital to help us be here for people who need hospice services across north east Essex as all the money raised goes towards helping people face incurable illness and bereavement.

“All our runners and the people who sponsored them are heroes to St Helena Hospice!

“As well as our huge thanks to everyone taking part, we would also like to thank our fantastic event volunteers and contributors, and Jones & Whymark Engineering Ltd for sponsoring the event again this year.”

Information about the next event, the popular Pier to Pier walk on Sunday 17th May.
