Run like your hero to support hospice care

St Helena Hospice is calling for local heroes to take part in a fun run at Colchester Sports Park on Sunday 29th March.

The charity’s Hero Run, sponsored by Jones & Whymark, is a chance to dress as your hero for a 2km family fun run or more seasoned runners can choose to take on a 5km or 10km.

Nichole Hockett, Hospice in the Home Senior Sister at St Helena Hospice, took part in last year’s Hero Run with her 10 year old son, Oliver, to celebrate and support the exceptional care delivered every day by the hospice team.

Mrs Hockett, who was awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse in November in recognition of her high level of commitment to patient care and nursing practice, said:

"The Hero Run event was a meaningful way for me to highlight the dedication of my colleagues, whose compassion and commitment make a profound difference to patients and families within the community.

"My son Oliver was eager to join me, wanting to show how proud he is of his mum and the work I carry out on a daily basis alongside my colleagues. Our matching T‑shirts were chosen to reflect not only our pride, but the shared sense of purpose that inspired us to take part.

"Together, we ran as a mother‑and‑son team honouring the hospice’s work, raising awareness, and celebrating the impact compassionate care has on local people."

Kayleigh Jowers, Senior Events & Challenges Fundraiser at St Helena Hospice, said:

“My heroes are our incredible hospice nurses, who show tireless passion and care for families across our community.

“Be a hero for St Helena Hospice and register for our Hero Run and choose your distance: 10k, 5k, or the family 2k.

“Whether you dress as a comic book legend or a real-life inspiration, it’s a wonderful way to honour your heroes while supporting St Helena to help patients and families receive the care and support they need, when they need it, where they need it.”

The event will be held on the Colchester Sports Park cycle track at Cuckoo Farm Way, Colchester, CO4 5YX.
