London Marathon runners did it for St Helena Hospice

15 amazing people took on the London Marathon to raise vital funds for St Helena.

Kayleigh Jowers, senior events and challenges officer at St Helena Hospice, said:

“An extraordinary display of heart and determination unfolded yesterday as 15 St Helena Hospice runners triumphed at the London Marathon. Together, they conquered the heat and the miles, with finish times ranging from a swift 3 hours to a courageous 6 hours and 59 minutes. Each runner's journey was deeply personal, fuelled by a desire to honour loved ones cared for by the hospice. Notably, several participants were new to running, showcasing their extraordinary dedication to the cause.

“Speaking personally, alongside fundraising manager Marcus Poston and our three dedicated running coaches, it has been an absolute privilege to witness and support each of these runners on their incredible journey of both miles and fundraising.

“Their collective effort has already reached an astounding £40,000, a sum that will make a profound difference to local families. From all of us at St Helena Hospice, thank you simply isn't enough. Your incredible support allows us to continue providing vital care right here in our community.”

Emma Madden:

“As a first timer, the London Marathon was one of the hardest but most proudest things I have done. My goal was to take in the incredible experience and just enjoy it as much as possible and ultimately get over that finish line. I have never experienced anything like it in my life; the roar of the crowds supporting everyone, the parties on route, singing, dancing, free snacks, running over one of London's most iconic landmarks.

"All I can say is, best running experience ever! I am so proud and honoured to have run it for St Helena Hospice, and can’t thank them enough for all the support and advice that has been provided throughout to help us as a team to get over the finish line together, as well as of course support from my family, friends and the Running Colchester crew. I have loved every minute of it and will continue to raise vital funds for St Helena Hospice in the future.”

Mel Westow:

“London marathon was the hardest thing i have ever done in my entire life but loved every minute of it! It was made even more special by Toby and me running the last 5km and crossing the finish line together. I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to take part in this ionic event and to raise much needed funds for the hospice.”

Toby Condon:

“What an incredible experience running the London Marathon for St Helena! The atmosphere was electric, the course was amazing and the support from everybody was out of this world, Memories made to last a life time and so much money raised for a cause so close to all our hearts. Thank you for St Helena for giving us the this once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Sam Griffin:

“It was an incredible experience from start to finish and I have St Helena Hospice to thank for that for allowing me to represent them out there on the course.”

Claudia Diplock:

“What an amazing experience. Thank you St Helena for giving me the opportunity to run the London Marathon. A day I will never forget”

Suranna Tuckwell:

“Words cannot describe the wave of emotions that you go through while running a marathon. There was a lot of highs but definitely a lot of lows where I doubted myself in finishing but the amazing crowds and atmospheres were like nothing I’ve ever seen before! It was an incredible experience that I will never forget. A massive thank you to St Helena hospice for the amazing opportunity which will stay with me forever.”

Daniel and Lee Feander:

“We had an amazing run up until the halfway point when we lost each other. The last part around the isle of dogs in the heat was brutal and I had to dig deep to keep going. The last mile I bumped into Lee again unexpectedly and that gave me the extra boost I needed. we both ended up going over the finish line together. That is such a fitting tribute to our dad who St Helena team cared for in his last days. Thanks to St Helena for everything!

Debbie Couchman:

“It was an amazing experience. Thank you to St Helena for giving me the opportunity. It was probably the hardest thing I’ve done but the feeling once you finish is like nothing else.”

Angela Duncan:

“Words can’t explain what an experience it was! So grateful to St Helena for giving me this opportunity. The team spirit and support from the group has been amazing. Proud of us all.”
