Rotary Club outgoing President selects hospice for donation

The outgoing President of a local Rotary Club has chosen St Helena Hospice as the recipient of a time-honoured donation, after learning about the funding pressures facing the sector.

The Rotary Club of Kelvedon & District traditionally allocates £1,000 for its outgoing President to select a charity to support with the funds. As he steps away from the role, Club President Ed Smith chose St Helena Hospice to receive the donation, and last week visited the hospice in Highwoods, Colchester, to meet hospice staff and volunteers.

The Club has maintained links with the hospice for several years and members followed the news over the summer of the unprecedent financial pressures that the hospice faced, which inspired Mr Smith’s decision.

Rebecca Corser, Community Fundraiser at St Helena Hospice, said:

“Our sincere thanks to Mr Smith for choosing the hospice for this generous donation to help us care for local people who need hospice support.

“Thank you also to the Rotary Club of Kelvedon & District members who work tirelessly throughout the years to raise funds for charities.”
