Frequently asked questions

What is the ’40 in 40’ event?
The 40 in 40 event is a virtual challenge by St Helena Hospice. It will allow supporters to be imaginative and creative in their 40 in 40 activity to help fundraise for the hospice. You will have 40 days to do something involving the number 40.
When is it?
The 40 days will commence on Saturday 1st February and run until Wednesday 12th March 2025.
Why 40 in 40?
2025 will see St Helena Hospice celebrate 40 years of providing care to patients and their families in north east Essex. We are starting 2025 by marking this anniversary with our 40 in 40 virtual event.
What activity could I or teams take part in and does it have to be every day for 40 days?
This is totally up to you and those taking part. We encourage supporters to use their imagination how they wish.

If you are looking to get fit and health in early 2025 it could be exercise related like walking/running/cycling or swimming 40km or 40 miles in 40 days. Or eating healthy by giving up chocolate for 40 days.

But it doesn’t have to be every day………… why not try something else like bake 40 cakes, write a poem about the hospice in 40 words, donate 40 items to our charity shops or say 40 ‘good mornings’ to people on your dog walk. Be creative with the number 40 and do something different to allow ‘everyone’ to get involved.

This fundraising virtual event can be completed by EVERYONE.
How old do you have to be to take part?
As it is a virtual event and undertaken by you the supporter, there is no age limit. Under 18’s MUST seek parent/guardian approval for taking part and supervision of the chosen activity where required.
How much does it cost to enter?
The virtual 40 in 40 event is FREE to enter with a fundraising target of £40 per person.

If you wish to not fundraise, you can select our 40 in 40 HERO TICKET and pay £40 to take part.
Can I fundraise more than the £40 target?
Of course, £40 is the target to keep with our 40 in 40 theme, but each supporter can enter their own fundraising target and work towards this.
How do I sign up?
You can sign up via our Enthuse event platform by following the link on the website. You will receive email updates along the way and all the information you need.
Do I have to create a fundraising page?
No, if selecting to fundraising for the hospice Enthuse will create this for you when you sign up to the event. You can add photos, a story behind your involvement in the event and also ‘create a team’ for others to join. Keep everyone up to date what you are up to and share your amazing 40 in 40 challenge activity.
Can my school, college or community/sports group take part?
Of course. We are encouraging schools to take part and create their own 40 in 40 activity and when signing up you can enter your school, college or community/sports group name.

This will allow for one fundraising ‘TEAM’ page to be created and shared amongst staff, volunteers, children etc.
What will I receive for taking part?
All those ‘registered’ will receive an electronic certificate.
