“The St Helena Hospice nurses were absolutely everything to our little family.”
Our nurses provide round the clock care to local people facing incurable illness at home and at the Hospice. This is only possible because of the generous support from our community. Sponsoring a nurse is one of the most powerful ways you can support us, helping to ensure we are here for those who need us, now and in the future.
By choosing to sponsor a nurse with a monthly donation, you’ll be providing a regular, reliable source of funding that we can count on to help support local people and their families.
Will you consider sponsoring a nurse with a regular donation of £5 a month?
“Jim was only 40 when he died. He was a family man, all he wanted to do was to look after me and our two young children, Archie and Izzy. Never did I think we would need hospice support, but no one ever knows until that time comes. We send our heartfelt thanks to all the regular givers for contributing to the compassionate care we had
When Jim became very unwell, a clinical nurse specialist, Michaela, started visiting us at home to make sure he was comfortable. It was so hard to see my husband in pain and still have to carry on with family life too, but I could say things to her exactly how they were, and she just got it. I would speak to the SinglePoint nurses, sometimes daily, for reassurance about what was happening to Jim, they had so much empathy. A few times, we had rapid response nurses out when his pain was really bad which meant we didn’t waste the precious time we had left in A&E. SinglePoint was a lifeline to our family.
Jim wouldn’t have been able to stay at home for as long as he did if it wasn’t for the nurses. Because of them, we were able to have our last Christmas together with all his family, and make memories at his 40th birthday party.
When the pain became unmanageable, Jim went into the Hospice where the nurses were so kind, friendly and caring. They did anything they could to try to make Jim’s life, all our lives, that bit better.
We had Izzy’s 5th birthday at the Hospice with cake, balloons and presents. The incredible nurses arranged pizza nights, zoo trips, even a limo ride. Everyone there loved him and he loved everyone there.
And in those final days, Jim was cared for with such compassion and dignity.
I will forever be thankful to every single nurse that cared for him and helped us create memories as a family.
I think if Jim knew he was still helping people, he’d be so happy. He appreciated every one of the St Helena Hospice nurses so much and would want more people to have the same support he did."
