The memory tree in the reception at the hospice.

What is the St Helena memory tree?

The memory tree is a hand-carved oak trunk with 500 bronze, silver and gold coloured leaves, each available for dedication in honour of a loved one.

You can choose to display your engraved leaf on the tree for one, two or three years with the option to renew or receive it as a keepsake at the end of the period.

Each dedicated leaf on the memory helps to support people in our community facing incurable illness and bereavement.

If you would prefer, instead of displaying a leaf on the memory tree we can engrave a leaf and and send it to you to display in a place of your choosing. For more information visit the memory leaves page.

Before dedicating a leaf please read our terms and conditions below.

When you dedicate a leaf you will also be offered the opportunity to have your leaf displayed on our virtual memory tree.

Terms and conditions

Engraving
Each leaf may be engraved with one name only; we cannot accept messages for leaves on display on the memory tree at the hospice. An additional name or numbers may be considered at the engraver's discretion.
Availability
A limited number of leaves are available on the St Helena Hospice memory tree. In the event the tree is full at the time your form is received, your leaf will be added when space next becomes available. You will be notified in this event.
Display period and renewal
At the end of the period you will be contacted by the St Helena Hospice fundraising team and offered the opportunity to renew the leaf you have dedicated. If you do not wish to renew your dedication, your leaf will be returned to you for you to keep. The period begins when your leaf is first displayed.
Leaf colour and location
We have a choice of three leaves - gold, silver, and bronze. Please be aware that the gold and bronze can change colour over time. When the leaf is ready you are welcome to come in and see it being placed on the tree and choose where you would like it to be placed.

Location of the memory tree
The memory tree is located in the reception area of the Hospice in Colchester. In exceptional circumstances St Helena reserves the right to move or relocate the memory tree to another appropriate site within the hospice premises.
Virtual memory tree
In addition to the tree at the hospice, we also have a virtual memory tree. If you have purchased a leaf on the memory tree or purchased a leaf to have with you at home, you will be invited to also join our virtual memory tree at no extra cost. Here you can also write a dedication for your loved one and view your leaf from anywhere at any time.
