St Helena launches ‘Apprentice-style’ challenge

St Helena Hospice has once again teamed up with Birkett Long Solicitors for the Birkett Long £50 Challenge and is looking to recruit teams from local businesses and community groups to take part in the entrepreneurial challenge.

At the start of the challenge, teams are issued a £50 note, which has been generously donated by Birkett Long Solicitors. They then have 10 weeks to invest and grow their £50 into as much money as possible for the local charity, for example the stake money could be used to purchase ingredients for a bake sale or to cover the cost of printing posters for a live music night. Once the fundraising event is over teams can choose to stop there or re-invest in another initiative to grow the £50 into hundreds or maybe even thousands for St Helena Hospice!

St Helena Hospice fundraiser Jo Clarke said: “This year we’re encouraging community groups to participate in the challenge as well as local businesses. We’d love to welcome teams from book clubs, WI groups, gardening clubs – anyone can put together a team and take on the Birkett Long £50 Challenge.

“Over the years we’ve seen teams use their skills to bring all sorts of exciting and innovative ideas to life - from abseiling office buildings to beat the boss competitions, we’re always impressed by the ingenuity of our participants and we can’t wait to see what teams come up with in 2022!”

The challenge begins on 1st May and teams have until 16th July to grow their £50. All of the money raised from the Birkett Long £50 Challenge will be donated to St Helena Hospice to help local people face incurable illness and bereavement, supporting them, their families, friends and carers.

Katie Robertson, marketing coordinator at Birkett Long, said: “We are delighted to be given the opportunity to sponsor the £50 Challenge again this year. Birkett Long is here for good and 200 years’ experience has taught us it’s not just about knowing the law. It’s also about the impact we have on our communities. We have a long standing relationship with St Helena Hospice who really reflect our own values as a business and are excited that community groups as well as local businesses are encouraged to take part in the challenge this year. We would like to wish everyone who takes part the best of luck.”

To take on the Birkett Long £50 Challenge, sign up before 11th April at www.sthelena.org.uk/50challenge or contact the St Helena Hospice fundraising team on 01206 931 468 or by email to fundraising@sthelena.org.uk
