The St Helena Hospice £10 Challenge encourages all young people, school students, youth clubs, and community groups to use their entrepreneurial skills to grow a £10 investment into as much money as they can for St Helena Hospice.
The challenge supports a broad range of subjects particularly maths and English, and also helps students to develop a number of skills including communication, team work, leadership and creativity. All of these help support young people in preparing for their next step in education and the world of employment.
Our £10 challenge is aimed at young people in school years 6 and above and is open to primary and secondary schools, as well as youth clubs, community groups and after school clubs.
Each year we are amazed by the creative fundraising ideas that emerge; from investing the £10 into ingredients for a cake sale, to turning their existing hobbies into a business – the possibilities are endless.
A certificate will be awarded to each team upon completion.

Year 6 students at Littlegarth school raised £9,628.01 in 2024.
- Katerina (Littlegarth pupil 2023)
“We did all sorts of fundraising challenges such as car washes, swimming and even running in banana costumes! It was an amazing experience for everyone, as it brought us closer together as a group, which was super fun and all for a great cause. We were split into groups, so it became a little competitive but was super fun! In the end we raised an enormous total over £17000, which is incredible for the hospice. I loved taking part in the fundraising and felt a real connection between our school and the Hospice in our local community. It was amazing to know that we were making such a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves.” – Alex (Littlegarth pupil 2023)
“We did a sponsored bounce on the trampoline because we wanted to have fun and raise money at the same time. We completed 4460 bounces to cover the amount of people who was cared for by the hospice last year” – Matilda & Martha (Littlegarth pupils 2024)
“I walked the whole of Mersea which was 13 miles, and it took 6.5 hours. It’s such a hard and challenging walk but it’s a lovely and interesting place to see. It was great to raise so much money for such a good cause” – Sofia (Littlegarth pupil 2024) Our highest individual fundraiser raising £2,083.75!
"As a parent of a Year 6 pupil involved in the challenge, it has been inspiring to see the young people at work. The creativity and diversity of the projects they devise is nothing less than inspiring. The young people are supported by the school and families to take a lead to plan and execute their ideas. Challenges range from selling personalised products, ice cream stalls, busking in the town centre and this year my son completed a hilarious charity run from the school to the hospice dressed as a banana. We have been so proud to see the pupils at work, the leadership and team work skills fostered at Littlegarth means that they rise to this challenge with ease."
