Read stories DonateVolunteers supporting the charity’s Tree-cycle fundraising scheme, sponsored by Tree & Lawn Company, collected the pre-booked trees from homes and businesses across north east Essex between Friday 10th and Monday 13th January, in return for a donation to St Helena Hospice to help local people face incurable illness and bereavement.
Some of the collected trees were taken to local animal sanctuaries for food and bedding, some were processed and recycled by Colchester and Tendring councils, and some were taken directly to a composting site where they can be used in Essex agriculture.
Jo Clarke, public fundraising manager at St Helena Hospice, said:
“We are so grateful to our fantastic volunteers who braved the cold to collect more trees than ever this year from towns and villages across Colchester and Tendring district. Many of the volunteers helped us over two days and some volunteered to help collect trees on all four collection days.
“This means we raised a record amount of money for St Helena Hospice, helping to make sure we can be there for people when they need us, and that’s a great way to kick off our 40th anniversary year!
“We send a huge thank you to everyone who made a donation to have their tree collected, and our thanks go to all the local companies who loaned us their vans for the day.
“We would also like to say thank you to Tree & Lawn Company who generously sponsored the Christmas Tree-cycle for the 8th year and donated their time and the use of their vans to help with the collection.”
Peter Cannon, Owner and Managing Director of Tree & Lawn Company, added:
"We continue to support St Helena Hospice with the Christmas Tree-cycle campaign because we believe the service they provide in north east Essex is absolutely vital, and in the current economic climate, charitable organisations are finding fundraising extremely challenging.
“Our involvement enables us to not only show our appreciation for the work they do day in and day out, but also helps to raise awareness and much-needed money to keep the service running for those who so desperately need it."
Tree-cycle for St Helena Hospice will be back in January 2026 and booking will be open later this year. Visit www.sthelena.org.uk for more fundraising events or challenges throughout 2025.
When you make a donation to St Helena Hospice, we are charged transactional fees by other companies, including fees for processing payments made to us, looking up addresses and validating bank account details.
We are very grateful to our donors who offer to offset some of these fees with a minor addition to their total amount. This is however completely optional and we are very grateful for your support whether or not you choose to contribute to processing fees.
