Hero runners raise thousands for Hospice

Colchester Sports Park saw almost 150 runners on Sunday 23rd March for the Hero Run raising more than £12,000, and counting, of vital funds for St Helena Hospice.

The charity event, which was sponsored by Jones and Whymark, saw novice and seasoned runners taking part dressed in fantastic costumes, including Marvel characters, running 10k, 5k or 1k around the cycle track.

Each fun run was cheered on by Planet of the Apes characters and Stormtroopers from costuming organisation The UK Garrison.

Thanking everyone who took part or sponsored someone to take part in Hero Run, Kayleigh Jowers, senior events and challenges fundraiser at St Helena Hospice, said:

“We had a brilliant time seeing all the runners at Colchester Sports Park on Sunday dressed as their heroes to support the work of St Helena Hospice in our 40th anniversary year; they are our heroes!

“All money raised from the event will go towards helping people face incurable illness and bereavement across north east Essex, and as our costs are rising even more, events like Hero Run are vital to help us secure our future for the next 40 years and beyond.

“As well as everyone taking part, we would also like to thank our fantastic event volunteers and contributors, and Jones & Whymark Engineering Ltd for sponsoring the event again this year.”
