Read stories DonateSt Helena has 24 shops across north east Essex, each relying on volunteers to keep them running. New volunteers are needed year-round and right now the charity would like to hear in particular from people able to volunteer a few hours regularly in its Magdalen Street furniture shop in Colchester, its Walton-on-the-Naze shop, or its Frinton-on-Sea clothes shop.
Volunteers are also urgently needed in St Helena’s donation centre in Stanway to help sort and prepare stock that has been generously donated by the community for sale in its charity shops.
Sally Hedman, donation centre manager at St Helena, said:
“We’re so fortunate to have the support of our local community donating items to stock our shops.
“We would love to introduce more wonderful volunteers to work alongside the Donation Centre team sorting bags of donated toys, clothing and other items. The more quality stock we process, the better we can feed our shops with the appropriate stock to continue to raise vital funds for our essential organisation.
“Volunteering with St Helena’s retail team offers a fantastic opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills, and support people who face incurable illness and bereavement across north east Essex.”

When you make a donation to St Helena Hospice, we are charged transactional fees by other companies, including fees for processing payments made to us, looking up addresses and validating bank account details.
We are very grateful to our donors who offer to offset some of these fees with a minor addition to their total amount. This is however completely optional and we are very grateful for your support whether or not you choose to contribute to processing fees.
CloseWe are able to claim an extra 25p on every £1 on your donation amount for no extra cost to you, as long as you are a UK tax payer; have paid enough income tax or capital gains tax in that tax year; and are donating your own money. If you pay less income tax and/or capital gains tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations in that tax year it is your responsibility to pay any difference.
