The scenic walk starts from either Clacton or Walton Pier taking in views of the sea, and participants can choose to walk the seven miles between the two piers or challenge themselves further to make the return journey – 14 miles in all.
Many people walk on their own or in groups to remember their loved ones, or simply take part to support their local hospice.
Lisa Chenery, events and challenges fundraiser at St Helena Hospice, said: “We are so excited to launch this year’s Pier to Pier! Last year over 500 people joined us on the beautiful north east Essex coast to walk for their local hospice and this year we hope to see even more.
“Our services are more in demand than ever as the local NHS faces extreme pressures and turns to us for support. Without the generosity of our incredible local community, we cannot continue to provide vital and essential care to the growing number of patients and families who desperately need hospice care or bereavement support.
“So please sign up to take part in Pier to Pier and raise as much as you can to help make sure St Helena Hospice can continue to be here for those who needs us at the most difficult time of their lives.”
Registration is £5 for adults and children over 5, with under 5s and dogs walking for free. Participants are encouraged to raise a minimum sponsorship. Sign up now at www.sthelena.org.uk/piertopier
When you make a donation to St Helena Hospice, we are charged transactional fees by other companies, including fees for processing payments made to us, looking up addresses and validating bank account details.
We are very grateful to our donors who offer to offset some of these fees with a minor addition to their total amount. This is however completely optional and we are very grateful for your support whether or not you choose to contribute to processing fees.
CloseWe are able to claim an extra 25p on every £1 on your donation amount for no extra cost to you, as long as you are a UK tax payer; have paid enough income tax or capital gains tax in that tax year; and are donating your own money. If you pay less income tax and/or capital gains tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations in that tax year it is your responsibility to pay any difference.
