Profits made by the £40 Challenge teams will help support people in need of hospice care at home across north east Essex and at the hospice inpatient unit in Colchester.
Ruth Jennings, corporate fundraiser at St Helena Hospice, said:
“We are challenging businesses, community groups, clubs and societies to get involved and set themselves fun-filled team-building tasks, all to raise vital funds to help St Helena support people at home across our north east Essex communities and in the hospice.
“Traditionally, teams start with a £50 pot to grow, but this year as a nod to our 40th anniversary, they will be given £40, kindly donated by Birkett Long Solicitors.
“Over the years we’ve seen our challenge teams use an array of skills to bring all sorts of great ideas to life. They’ve held quiz nights, curry nights and bake sales, and arranged sponsored walks, football tournaments and golf days, and more.
“We’re always impressed by our participants’ fundraising ideas and we can’t wait to see what our teams come up with this year.”
Thrive Gym took part in last year's challenge and Vicky Braddon, Co-owner of Thrive Gym, said the team enjoyed the sense of community between them and the friendly competition between the local businesses taking part, adding:
Thrive Gym took part in the charity entrepreneurial challenge in 2024 by holding a quiz, a bake off competition, guess the weight of the suitcase, baby sweepstake and a raffle, all to raise much need funds for St Helena Hospice.
“We really wanted to support a local charity that helps and supports so many friends and family, not just the team but also the [gym] members. St Helena makes such a difference to people’s lives, we wanted to be part of anything we could to help them continue the amazing work they do.”
Birkett Long Solicitors is once again sponsoring the fundraising initiative. David Cant, the firm’s Partner and Director of Business Development & Marketing, said:
“Birkett Long is incredibly proud to continue its long-standing partnership with St Helena Hospice, which began when the hospice was founded in 1985.
“Our involvement in the £50 Challenge started in 2012 and we are pleased to have supported it ever since. St Helena Hospice plays a vital role in our community - a community in which we live and work - and it is essential that businesses and individuals continue to support this cause.
“We are delighted to remain part of this important initiative and look forward to seeing the results in this 40th year.”
