Walk Pier to Pier to mark 40 years of hospice care

The popular Pier to Pier charity walk to raise funds for St Helena Hospice is returning to the north east Essex coast on Sunday 18th May 2025, two days before the 40th anniversary of the first patient to arrive at the hospice.

The family-friendly Pier to Pier walk, which is sponsored by Pickering Group, has been a favourite event among supporters of St Helena Hospice, as well as local residents and businesses, since 2011 and attracts hundreds of people from across Tendring district and Colchester.

Participants can choose to start from either Clacton or Walton Pier and walk the 7 miles between the two piers taking in views of the sea, or challenge themselves further by walking the return journey of 14 miles.

Marcus Poston, partnerships fundraising manager at St Helena Hospice, said:

“Join us at Pier to Pier on Sunday 18th May 2025 as we celebrate 40 years of compassionate care for people across north east Essex.

“Walk alongside hundreds of local people to honour the families St Helena Hospice has supported across four decades, and help to make sure local hospice care can continue to be here for the next generation of people you love.”

Many people walk on their own or in groups to remember loved ones, while others take part simply to support their local hospice.

Event registration costs £10 for adults and £5 for children with a fundraising target of £40 each, which helps St Helena Hospice to support people through the toughest times of their lives, at home, at the hospice and over the phone 24/7.

To mark St Helena Hospice’s 40th anniversary, there is an option of a ruby ticket at £40.
